Fedor vs. Monson Set to Meet This Fall

Sunday, November 20, 2011

From The Olympic Arena in Moscow, Russia

NEW YORK (September 16, 2011) – Mixed martial arts (MMA) heavyweight legends Fedor ‘The Last Emperor’ Emelianenko (31-4, 1 NC) and Jeff ‘The Snowman’ Monson (42-12) will meet as the headline bout at M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Monson. The event will take place Sunday November 20th from the Olympic Arena in Moscow, Russia with details on broadcast availability announced soon.

“Fedor has been very vocal about wanting to continue his fighting career,” said Evgeni Kogan, Director of Operations for Europe’s leading MMA promotion M-1 GLOBAL. “Fedor vs. Monson is a classic fight that had been in crosshairs for year. All parties have come together to make this fight a reality.”

Regarded as one of MMA’s greatest heavyweight fighters of all time, Emelianenko has been challenged as late, losing his last three bouts after going undefeated for nearly a decade. The losses came at the hands of Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. Hungry to compete, ‘The Last Emperor’ still has the drive to battle top competitors. “I cannot wait to compete again. Monson is a great athlete who is skilled in many areas. He is a very worthy opponent,” said Fedor.

Coming of a loss to Daniel Cormier, the 40-year-old Monson is a two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist and considered extremely dangerous on the ground with more than half of his 42 career wins coming by way of submission.

Even though Emelianenko is coming off three straight losses, Monson holds Fedor in high regard; “Fedor is the best heavyweight of all time… It’s an honor to be fighting him.” Asked about what a win would mean, Monson didn’t mince words; “A win would be a highlight to my career. My trainers at American Top Team will prepare me for all possibilities. I’ll be prepared.”

As the hype builds towards the legendary matchup between Fedor and Monson, M-1 Global is already well underway preparations for its October 14th event in Phoenix, Arizona, M-1 Challenge: Guram vs. Garner 2.

The event from the new 5,500 seat Grand Canyon University Arena marks the promotion’s third outing on premium US network SHOWTIME and is headlined with two title fights; Reigning Heavyweight (265 Lbs.) Champion Guram Gugenishvili (11-0) will face relentless power-puncher Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner (7-3) while BBJ Ace Vinny Magalhaes (8-5) makes his inaugural light heavyweight (205 Lbs.) defense against Mikhail Zayats (14-5).

UFC 135 Results & Win our Contest

Bones Jones defeats Quinton Rampage Jackson as we predicted via rear naked choke. Jones was using Muay Thai strikes like some of the best Thai Boxers and Wrestling like top wrestlers at 23 years old.
Watching Bones Jones defeat Rampage Jackson was like a crane eating a frog with legs cut off by a French chef.  www.MMAMaxim.com

If you want to know why Jones went with the monkey style in round 1:

James Te Huna by KO in R 1 at 47 seconds over Ricardo Romero who badly telegraphed his takedowns and was punished by a barrage of punches.  This is 2011 and a fighter does not want to strike and is predictable at his takedowns = failure!

Post your prediction with round, time, and way to victory to win a shirt at www.Facebook.com/MMAMaxim We are predicting Jon Jones by KO/TKO Round 3 at 3:03 with a barrage of leg kicks in the 1st two rounds to make Rampage's boxing reach look short.

Takeya Mizugaki TKOs Cole Escovedo in R2 at 4:30.  Why hold the Thai Clinch without using knee strikes? www.MMAMaxim.com

Junior Assuncao by Unanimous Decison over Eddie Yagan

Nate Diaz submits Gomi! What a great transition from a triangle not quit on to an arm bar. 4:27 in R1.

All three judges had it 30-27 for Browne vs Broughton. Funniest quote tonight Browne stated "I am feeling how big that dude is."

Ben Rothwell almost submitted via arm bar by Mark Hunt! Elevation takes it toll on Heavyweights. Hunt by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 30-27).

Josh Koscheck KOs Matt Hughes in R1 at 4:59.  Yamasaki are you blind? He was out 5 shots before you stopped it.

Alistair Overeem Fires Golden Glory MMA Management!

Alistair Overeem Fired Golden Glory MMA Management! Alistair Overeem quoted verbatim from Tuesday 20th September 2011.  Hire a team with experienced lawyers who understand MMA who can prepare and understand complex legal clauses affecting your livelihood and retirement.

Does this shed light on Zuffa's earlier ban on them from UFC Fights?  See http://www.mmamaxim.com/2011/08/ufc-president-dana-white-rebutted-by.html

"I would like to make a statement regarding the recent news of the separation from my long-time management Golden Glory. As with any relationship, there are good times and bad times - you have your common ground and your differences. As with any relationship, you have trust. When differences lead to a breach of trust, there's no turning back and no way to continue a positive, working relationship. I don't air my dirty laundry. I would appreciate the respect regarding my privacy to not disclose any further details on this matter.

Again, I would like to thank team Golden Glory for all the years we worked together and wish them success for the future."

UFC Replaces Nick Diaz & Substitutes Carlos Condit to Fight GSP!

UFC President Dana White Replaces Nick Diaz and Substitutes Carlos Condit to fight Georges St.-Pierre (GSP) for the welterweight title.  Diaz was a no-show at the UFC 137 press conference in Las Vegas today - just like he was a no-show at a press conference in Toronto.

GSP stated that Condit is "more dangerous than Diaz" and he thinks Condit is a great guy when he met him training at Jackson's MMA.  GSP has helped Rory MacDonald prepare for his fight against Condit in the past.  GSP is looking forward to fighting in Japan because of his background studying karate.

UFC Cain Velasquez vs Junior dos Santos on Fox Sports on Nov. 12

UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship Heavyweight Title Fight Velasquez vs. dos Santos
Post your predictions on the outcome at www.Facebook.com/MMAMaxim and let us know if you can join us for the tail-gate party at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.

Breaking news - Heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos announced as the headliner for the first UFC on Fox event taking place November 12, 2011.

UFC President Dana White stated "It will more than likely shown on Rogers in Canada"

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will face Junior dos Santos on Nov. 12 LIVE on FOX Sports from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the match-up Friday on a media conference call.

Because it is a five round title fight, there will only be one fight on the FOX broadcast. UFC fans should not fear though, White said they will make the undercard available to the fans whether it be through Facebook or otherwise.

“This is like us getting Ali-Foreman,” said FOX Sports Chairman David Hill.
