Sportfight welterweight champion Nathan Coy will lock horns with American Kickboxing Academy representative Nate Moore in a preliminary matchup at Strikeforce “Diaz vs. Cyborg” on Saturday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Sherdog.com will stream six undercard bouts live, beginning at 8:15 p.m. ET.
Anchored at Team Quest, Coy last appeared in May, when he dropped a split decision to top welterweight prospect Tyron Woodley in the Strikeforce Challengers 8 co-main event. A collegiate All-American wrestler at Oregon State University, he has secured six of his eight career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over International Fight League alum Chris Albandia and UFC veterans Mike Pierce and Rick Story highlight Coy’s resume. In 11 professional appearances, he has been finished only once.
Moore has not fought since he was victimized by Tarec Saffiedine in a second-round knockout at Strikeforce Challengers 8. A potent finisher, he has recorded all six of his victories by KO, TKO or submission, five of them inside one round. Moore, who cut his teeth inside the Gladiator Challenge and United Fight League promotions has never lost back-to-back bouts.
Meanwhile, Skrap Pack standout Bobby Stack will square off with K-1 Hero’s veteran Isaiah Hill in an undercard lightweight duel.
Stack will carry a five-fight winning streak into the match. The San Francisco-based 27-year-old last competed at Strikeforce/M-1 Global “Fedor vs. Werdum” in June, when he earned a split decision victory over Derrick Burnsed. The victory improved his mark to 3-1 inside Strikeforce. Each of Stack’s past five bouts has reached the judges.
Winless in his past six outings, Hill has not fought since submitting to an Alexander Trevino keylock at Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” more than a year ago. A protégé of former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le, his last taste of victory came in a split decision over Casey Olson under the Warrior Cup banner in April 2007. Hill owns a 0-2 mark inside Strikeforce.
