UFC President Dana White Replaces Nick Diaz and Substitutes Carlos Condit to fight Georges St.-Pierre (GSP) for the welterweight title.  Diaz was a no-show at the UFC 137 press conference in Las Vegas today - just like he was a no-show at a press conference in Toronto.

GSP stated that Condit is "more dangerous than Diaz" and he thinks Condit is a great guy when he met him training at Jackson's MMA.  GSP has helped Rory MacDonald prepare for his fight against Condit in the past.  GSP is looking forward to fighting in Japan because of his background studying karate.

Breaking news - Heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos announced as the headliner for the first UFC on Fox event taking place November 12, 2011.

UFC President Dana White stated "It will more than likely shown on Rogers in Canada"

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will face Junior dos Santos on Nov. 12 LIVE on FOX Sports from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the match-up Friday on a media conference call.

Because it is a five round title fight, there will only be one fight on the FOX broadcast. UFC fans should not fear though, White said they will make the undercard available to the fans whether it be through Facebook or otherwise.

“This is like us getting Ali-Foreman,” said FOX Sports Chairman David Hill.

Berry changed his stance to southpaw and cracked the Frenchman Kongo with a sizzling overhand right that dropped Kongo where he stood and rushed in to finish. Then what happened next was one of the greatest reversals in a fight.

Cheick Kongo appeared to be out on his feet -- until he put Patrick Barry to sleep with a short right uppercut.

In what will undoubtedly go down as one of the most improbable comebacks in mixed martial arts history, Kongo survived nearly being stopped and flattened Barry with one punch in the UFC Live 4 main event on Sunday at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The dramatic finish came 2:39 into the opening round. Barry lay unconscious on the mat, his right leg bent beside him, his open eyes staring blankly into space.

“It was perfect,” Kongo said, pointing to the uppercut that ended it.

The two heavyweights traded heavy leg kicks from the start, with Barry controlling the center of the cage and backing Kongo (16-6-2, 9-4-1 UFC) into the fence. He cracked the Frenchman with a sizzling overhand right that dropped Kongo where he stood and swarmed to finish. Referee Dan Miragliotta appeared close to stopping it and even made brief contact with the two fighters, but he gave Kongo, a proven 24-fight veteran, the benefit of the doubt.

With his back to the cage, a still wobbly Kongo unleashed a right hook that knocked Barry (6-3, 3-3 UFC) off balance, planted himself and followed it with the uppercut. Kongo trailed his unconscious opponent to the mat and landed a few hammerfists before Miragliotta called him off.

“I had to win this fight,” Kongo said. “I’m really happy.”

Brenneman Upsets World-Ranked Story

Charlie Brenneman made himself a factor in the welterweight division with the most important 15 minutes of work in his career.

A last-minute substitute for the suspended Nate Marquardt, Brenneman used a heavy dose of takedowns, grappling and scrambling to upset the world-ranked Rick Story in the co-main event. All three judges scored it 29-28 for Brenneman, a 30-year-old Hollidaysburg, Pa., native who has quietly won nine of his past 10 bouts.

Brenneman (14-2, 3-1 UFC) grounded Story repeatedly, frustrating the surging welterweight contender with a relentless pace. The AMA Fight Club standout struck for takedowns in all three rounds and powered out of repeated submission attempts from story, including a second-round guillotine choke and a third-round triangle choke. Story (13-4, 6-2 UFC) mounted Brenneman with 1:19 left in the fight but failed to exact any damage and allowed the underdog to slip out the back door.

The defeat snapped Story’s six-fight winning streak.

Brown Decisions Howard, Ends Slide

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 alum Matt Brown halted a three-fight losing streak with a hard-fought unanimous decision over John Howard in a welterweight showcase. All three judges scored it 29-28 for Brown, who won for the first time in almost two years.

Howard scored effectively with low kicks but found himself largely outgunned on the feet. Brown (12-10, 5-4 UFC) wobbled him during a stout first-round exchange, punctuating a nice combination with a grazing head kick. Howard backpedaled in the face of superior firepower and abandoned a standup fight in favor of clinches and takedowns. However, Brown resisted his advances, and Howard expended valuable energy in a series of failed attempts to get the fight on the ground.

Brown scored with a trip takedown early in round two, landed in half guard and worked effectively from top position. Howard (14-7, 4-3 UFC) transitioned to a leg lock and swept into top position, only to be stonewalled and neutralized with an omoplata from his grounded opponent. The two welterweights traded takedowns in a largely uneventful third round, and Brown avoided Howard’s late bid for a kimura.

Mitrione KOs Morecraft, Moves to 5-0

Unbeaten and improving “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Matt Mitrione blasted through the 6-foot-6, 261-pound Christian Morecraft and scored a decisive second-round knockout in a featured heavyweight matchup. Undone by a beautiful three-punch combination, Morecraft met his end 4:28 into round two.

Morecraft (7-2, 1-2 UFC) had no answer for the hand speed and power his opponent brought to bear. Straight left hands, set up by wicked inside leg kicks, were at the heart of Mitrione’s attack. He put Morecraft

As round two dawned, Morecraft was a spent force. Mitrione (5-0, 5-0 UFC) picked his spots and weathered two takedowns from his fading foe. A picture-perfect combination -- a right hook followed by a straight left hand and a straight right -- sent Morecraft’s mouthpiece flying and left the Team Bombsquad representative staring at the lights.

UFC middleweight title challenger Nate Marquardt (31-10-2 MMA, 10-4 UFC) had hoped to drop to the welterweight division.


Less than one hour after the UFC officially announced that Marquardt has been scratched from Sunday's UFC on Versus 4 event, UFC president Dana White informed the world Marquardt also has been released from the organization.

"I'm sure you heard that Nate Marquardt is out," White said in a short video clip posted on his Twitter account. "It's true. He failed his medicals. Not only is he out of this fight, out of the main event on Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC."

Neither White nor Marquardt's management team were immediately available when contacted for comment.

Marquardt "did not receive medical clearance" and was pulled from a planned main-event bout with Rick Story. Charlie Brenneman was quickly tapped as a last-minute replacement, and a heavyweight bout between Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry was promoted to the evening's featured slot.

Specifics on the reasoning for the scratch have not yet been announced.


"Nate is really disappointed," a representative said. "He really was looking forward to making his welterweight debut, and he plans to be back in there as soon as possible."

Clay Guida ($74,000) and Ed Herman ($48,000) were the top earners at this past weekend's UFC event, The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale.

MMAjunkie requested and received the list of disclosed paydays from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The total disclosed payroll for the event was $389,000.

The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale took place June 4 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The night's main card aired on Spike TV, and the preliminary card streamed for free on Facebook.

The event concluded the latest season of "TUF," the UFC's groundbreaking reality series that debuted in 2005. Welterweight Tony Ferguson knocked out Ramsey Nijem to win the 14-man, 16-slot "TUF 13" tournament.

As with all "TUF" cast members, Ferguson and others who remain under the UFC banner are signed to multi-year contracts that calls for increases in pay over time.

Light heavyweight Brandon Vera is still a UFC fighter.

Vera (11-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) was cut by the promotion this past month following his third consecutive loss, which came against Thiago Silva (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at UFC 125.

However, it has been learned that the result of that bout is expected to be changed to a "no contest" following additional scrutiny of Silva's post-fight drug test, and the promotion has rescinded Vera's release, sources close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

As of now, Vera merely is back on the roster and does not have a pending booking. Until this past week, he was medically suspended for a broken nose he sustained in the third round of the Silva fight, which took place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

MMAjunkie.com earlier reported that the Nevada State Athletic Commission still is processing the drug-test results for one of the athletes who competed on the Jan. 1 event, and that athlete is believed to be Silva.

If Silva is confirmed to have failed his post-fight drug test, the NSAC is likely to issue him a suspension and fine, as well as changing the result of the Jan. 1 fight to a "no contest."

The Brazilian slugger was set to meet Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 130 but since has been replaced by Matt Hamill.

Vera spoke about his struggles to return to form as the fight with Silva approached and knew he was in a make-or-break situation.

"When I first came in here as a young kid, guns blazing, you learn a lot," Vera told MMAjunkie.com at the pre-event press conference for UFC 125. "Life experiences, fighting experiences, I've learned a lot.

"My team got on me. My coaches got on me. People smacked me around and told me to get it together. I think I got it together."

Unfortunately, things didn't go Vera's way during the fight. Silva dominated the fight when it hit the mat and earned a unanimous-decision win with two scores of 30-27 and one of 30-26.

Vera made his octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 2 as a heavyweight and quickly racked up wins over Frank Mir, Assuerio Silva, Justin Eilers and Fabiano Scherner. But he hit a roadblock with back-to-back losses against Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum, and shortly afterward, he dropped to the light-heavyweight division. There, he met mixed results with a record of 3-1 before his recent slide.

"It kind of bugged me, only because we all fight, and just losing alone is humiliating enough," Jones said. "It's embarrassing. If someone ever did that to me, where they would beat me like that and then drum on my back, I would be humiliated. Just absolutely humiliated."

Such are the peculiarities of mixed martial arts. Smashing Vera's nose is to be expected. It's one of the risks you take when you step in the cage, and everyone realizes it. But to be essentially mocked on live TV, that's something most fighters assume they won't have to deal with.

As Jones explained it, it wasn't just Vera who Silva was insulting when he alternated between drumming on Vera's back and slapping his ear in the third round of their bout.

"Think about all the people who watched those fights. All his fans, all the members at his school, all the kids that look up to him. Man, it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It's not something I would ever want done to me and it's not something I would ever do to someone else."
