UFC 130 Bonuses, Injuries, Interviews, Lesnar's Surgery & Whom Should Fight Jones Next?

UFC 130 bonuses: Browne, Tibau, Stann and Santiago each win $70,000

UFC 130 postfight: Bonuses, injuries, TUF 14 news, and SEAL Team 6 was at event

Check out the sale on our Samurai Shogun Shirt to help our veterans.

- Travis Browne, Gleison Tibau, Brian Stann and Jorge Santiago all received $70,000 postfight bonuses. Browne got Knockout of the Night and Tibau's rear-naked choke of Rafaello Oliveira got him Submission of the Night. Stann and Santiago were honored for Fight of the night.

- UFC 130 produced a lot of injuries. Frank Mir beat Roy Nelson easily on the scorecards, but may have suffered a broken his jaw for his efforts. Struve, Oliveira and Michael McDonald all went to the hospital as well. Stann showed up for the presser even though he suffered a broken thumb.

- The injury news of night revolved around Brock Lesnar and his battle against diverticulitis. According to UFC president Dana White, Lesnar had surgery on Friday to remove 12 inches of his colon.

Amazingly, Lesnar told White he was "a little sore." The surgery went well and Camp Lesnar hopes he can return at the start of 2012. White said Lesnar will probably lose a lot of weight on a liquid diet over the next few months.

- Quinton "Rampage" Jackson elaborated on his fractured hand reference in the Octagon following his win over Matt Hamill. Jackson said he injured his left hand back in December or January in Japan. He did so when he was horsing around with a friend.

- If Jackson legitimately has a broken hand, it may cost him a shot at a fight against Jon Jones in the fall. Lyoto Machida is also in the running. White wouldn't commit to choosing an opponent for the UFC light heavyweight champ.

- There  was interesting news about Season 14 of "The Ultimate Fighter." White confirmed that Jason Miller and Michael Bisping will be the coaches, but their season ending fight will not take place on pay-per-view. The fight will be part of the TUF 14 Finale that airs free on Spike.

- Stann revealed the inspiring news that members of "SEAL Team 6" were in attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The elite military operatives comprised the crew that located and killed Osama bin Laden.

- Stann was asked about future opponents and sounded offended at the suggestion that he could fight fellow military veteran Tim Kennedy in the future.

- White also revealed his dream for the future of TUF. While discussing international destinations for the show like the Philippines, White said he like to hold a season with 16 different TUF's in locations around the world. The UFC would close out the season by holding a TUF World Cup with the 16 winners.

- In Hollywood news, White confirmed that a first will go down in a new MMA movie starring Kevin James. The UFC is allowing the movie to use its name and some of its personalities including fighters, Joe Rogan and Bruce Buffer. White said he was asked to be in the movie, but turned down the offer.

- White elaborated on the Chael Sonnen situation confirming that the promotion won't be going renegade with the fighter and taking him to another state other than California. When asked why Zuffa is involved with allowing Josh Barnett, also in license limbo with California, to fight in Texas, White said, "That's not me. That's their deal." White was referencing Strikeforce management.

UFC Fighter Chael Sonnen Submitted Again! His Indefinite Suspension Upheld! Do You Agree With the CA Athletic Commission?

UFC Middleweight Fighter Chael Sonnen Taps Again With His Indefinite Suspension Upheld By The California Athletic Commission!  Do You Agree This Was Required To Maintain The Positive Image Of The Sport And Punish Corruption?

UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen lost his appeal against an indefinite suspension today by the California Athletic Commission.  Do you think this will definitely end his career in mixed martial arts and combat sports as a fighter, coach, or businessman?

MMAJunkie reported at a hearing in Los Angeles, the California Athletic Commission ruled 4-1 to uphold Sonnen's indefinite suspension. While suspended, Sonnen is ineligible to apply for a fighting license in California.

For the ruling, the commission cited Sonnen's money laundering conviction and a false testimony from last December.

In January, Sonnen avoided jail time with a guilty plea to federal money laundering
by agreeing to forfeit his real estate license and paying a $10,000 fine.

Last December, Sonnen told the commission that he had cleared the use of testosterone replacement therapy with Nevada executive director Keith Kizer. However, Kizer said the conversation never took place. Last month on The MMA Hour, Sonnen admitted he used the "wrong words" in the testimony, stating it was information relayed to him by his manager, whom Sonnen has since relieved of his duties.

During Wednesday's appeal hearing, Sonnen said he could be retiring if his suspension was not lifted and would be missing out on an opportunity to coach The Ultimate Fighter 14 against Michael Bisping.

Almost all contracts with athletes have a morals clause requiring moral behavior by the athletes.

Brock Lesnar Replaced By Shane Carwin To Fight Dos Santos At UFC 131

Brock Lesnar Sick Battling Diverticulitis! We Get To See How Shane Carwin Would Do If He Finished Lesnar!

Join us on Facebook.com/MMAMaxim to comment.  Would That Be Considered A Prexisting Condition For A Less Weathly Fighter Under Zuffa's Health Insurance For Their Fighters?

In a blockbuster announcement Thursday afternoon, UFC President Dana White revealed that Brock Lesnar is once again suffering from diverticulitis and will not be able to fight at UFC 131. Instead, the main event on that fight card will be Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin.

"I want to thank the UFC, I want to thank Mr. White and I want to apologize to Junior dos Santos and Spike TV," Lesnar said. "This is an unfortunate situation for me. I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis, at that time not knowing what the problem was. ... Diverticulitis is something that never goes away. It's something I've dealt with since the first occurrence and I've been battling it."

Lesnar said that he has been feeling sick for three months and has been on antibiotics, and that "It didn't allow me to train to my full capabilities. I was forced to make a decision to go back to the doctor this week." Lesnar said he spent 14 hours talking to doctors at the Mayo Clinic this week, and although he insisted that the illness won't end his career and that he won't retire from MMA, he said there's simply no way he can fight as scheduled in June.
"It wouldn't have been fair," Lesnar said. "My health is No. 1, my family is No. 1 and it was a hard decision. I'm choked up about it and there's nothing I can do."
Lesnar said White has been "first class" in his support through this relapse of his illness. White said he told Lesnar to make sure his personal health was his top priority.
"He was all bummed out about pulling out of the fight," White said, "I told him, 'Don't worry about the fight.' ... I'm glad it's not life-threatening."
For the UFC, losing the Lesnar-dos Santos bout is a major blow: This season of The Ultimate Fighter has been devoted to building up the two coaches, and it was expected to be one of the UFC's biggest pay-per-views of 2011. Instead, the UFC has now lost that main event, just a week after losing its UFC 130 main event of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard.
But while the news is bad for the UFC, Lesnar sounded an optimistic note about his future.
"I love this sport and I love what I do," Lesnar said. "This isn't the end of Brock Lesnar."

UFC ANNOUNCES UNPRECEDENTED ACCIDENT INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ITS ATHLETES

Customized Program That Complements Existing Event Coverage Now in Place
for Nearly 350 UFC and STRIKEFORCE® Athletes

Las Vegas, Nevada – Zuffa, LLC, owner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® brand, announced today that nearly 350 UFC® and STRIKEFORCE® independent contractor athletes will now be eligible for customized accident insurance coverage. The coverage will be underwritten by Houston Casualty Insurance Company and complement existing event coverage the company already provides its athletes. Never before has a combat sports promoter provided coverage to nearly 350 athletes, and this unprecedented policy will cover accidental injuries suffered by athletes while training, as well as non-training incidents such as automobile accidents.

To date, Zuffa event-related insurance has always met or exceeded Athletic Commission requirements and has covered all injuries sustained during competition. After exploring the purchase of “training insurance” for its athletes for several years – much of which was met with difficulty in finding an insurance company willing to insure mixed martial artists – Zuffa officials were able to secure a comprehensive plan through A+ rated Houston Casualty.

The new policy adds 24-hour worldwide medical life insurance and dental coverage, as well as emergency medical evacuation. Zuffa will pay 100 percent of the premiums for its athletes and have an employee dedicated to handling and filing all claims.

“Our athletes are some of the very best in the world and we’ve committed significant financial resources to provide them with insurance that complements the gold standard we have set for event-related coverage,” UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. “We’re pleased to provide coverage that enables our athletes to seek and receive treatment for injuries sustained while preparing for bouts.”

“As this sport continues to grow, we have been working hard to secure additional insurance coverage so that our athletes can perform at the highest levels,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’re proud to give our athletes access to this type of insurance.”

Stepping up into the UFC 130 main event slot is the bout between former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, and moving to the Pay-Per-View card will be the Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story welterweight showdown.

UFC 129 Toronto: Bonuses & GSP Becomes First UFC Fighter with 2,000 Total Strikes But With A Drop in Striking Accuracy!

UFC 129 Toronto: Post-Fight Bonuses

Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick at UFC 129Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick win Fight of the Night Bonus with their never say submit fight in which Hominick had a large hematoma on his forehead and almost being knocked out more than once.

Jose Aldo and Mark Hominick were awarded bonuses for “Fight of the Night.”  Both fighters took home $129,000 for their efforts.  Aldo successfully retained his UFC featherweight title after five rounds and extended his winning streak to twelve fights.  There was no way Georges St.-Pierre and Jake Shields deserved it with GSP's criticism of his performance and apology to fans.  However, Jake Shields impressed some fans by not being completely dominated by GSP's striking.  Shields has trained in Muay Thai and only has one knockout in thirty-two fights.

However, Shields was unable to take down GSP after being stuffed after several attempts.  It was evidence GSP is not ready to take on Anderson Silva by moving up in weight.

Updated UFC Leaders after UFC 129 - Georges St-Pierre Becomes First UFC Fighter with 2,000 Total Strikes But With A Drop In Striking Accuracy!

The major movement on the all-time UFC records page all belonged to Georges St-Pierre. In defeating Jake Shields by unanimous decision, St-Pierre also became the first UFC fighter in history with 2,000 total strikes, reclaiming the number one spot after dropping to second place behind Jon Fitch.

But most of St-Pierre's moves on the leaderboards were in the wrong direction. He dropped down to 10th place in striking accuracy and to 8th place in SApM. And with another 25-minute decision, St-Pierre enters at #8 for longest average fight time, with the average GSP match now lasting 14 minutes, four seconds.

Note: Due to a minor chance in a few of our calculations, some fluctuations can be seen in the leaderboards for SLpM, SApM, and Sig. Striking Defense.

Lyoto Machida and Randy Couture at UFC 129
Lyoto Machida earns KO of the Night Bonus

Lyoto Machida earned “Knockout of the Night” honors and a $129,000 bonus with his crane kick knockout of UFC & MMA legend Randy Couture.  Team Xtreme Couture suffered a loss when Anderson Silva knocked out Vitor Belfort at UFC 126 and now another front kick KO.  The win broke a two fight losing streak for the former UFC light heavyweight champion Machida (despite Machida's contoversial loss to Rampage Jackson).

Pablo Garza and Yves Jabouin at UFC 129
Pablo Garza earns Submission of the Night Honors with a flying triangle choke.

Pablo Garza earned “Submission of the Night” with a tight triangle choke victory over Yves Jabouin.  Jabouin seemed to control the fight early with powerful low leg kicks until a flying triangle attempt by Garza changed the tempo.  Garza transitioned the triangle to a mounted position and back to finally seal the deal.  Garza earned his second UFC win and a $129,000 bonus.

John "The Bull" Makdessi from Quebec had an amazing spinning backfist KO of Kyle Watson (from Team GSP on the Ultimate Fighter) in round 3 at 1:27.
