"Hamill" the Movie Inspires To "Never Give Up" And Deaf Body Building Legend Lou Ferrigno's View

The world-premiere of the true story about Matt Hamill's life entitled, "Hamill" was inspiring  and uplifting!
We were truly moved and were reminded that Matt is like a powerful river.  Even if temporarily diverted from his path (his ambitions of being a champion NCAA wrestler at Purdue) he constantly surmounts obstacles to succeed.  The story begins with Matt as a toddler undergoing a test for deafness and intelligence. He begins life as the only deaf person in the town of Loveland, Ohio and is assessed as profoundly deaf.  His grandfather espouses the powerful mindset that Matt later adopts to overcome obstacles by believing in himself and not having a "pity party" to weaken his potential.  Matt's anger as a child for being discriminated against is channeled in a positive manner when he begins to wrestle as a young child.

Matt and Body Building Champion Lou Ferrigno are exemplars for the deaf community and for everyone on how to overcome obstacles and succeed in sports.  Lou was only 21 years old when he won his first Mr. Universe title. Lou was the only person to ever win Mr. Universe titles two years in a row consecutively and the youngest ever to win Mr. Universe and that records still stands today in the Guinness Book of world records. Lou carried the world of bodybuilding to new heights and himself to super stardom with the film documentary, Pumping Iron, which chronicled the fabled exploits of the youngest and only person to ever become Mr. Universe twice in a row! Exploding onto the film scene, with his place as a bodybuilding legend secured, Lou set out to do the same thing in film and television.

Lou's views on MMA, if he would have competed in MMA years ago, and how he and Matt surpassed obstacles at the 2 minute mark of the video below by our friends at MMAHeat:

We were able to shake Matt's hand and hug him to congratulate him on his success after we saw the movie. We hope it helps funding for wrestling programs and sports programs because it we know it will inspire millions of people and bring attention to issues facing the deaf community.

This film was in the breakthrough category of AFI FEST 2010 in Hollywood, CA. Oren Kaplan’s “Hamill,” casted deaf actor Russell Harvard (From “There Will Be Blood”) as Matt in high school and college and many other highly talented deaf actors.
